A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the butt.
Today is “D Day”. We’re pulling out of Washington on our fast trip south. I’m not sure why all our moves tend to be fast but they do. We used to say that we would slowly saunter along. However, we don’t seem to slowly move anywhere. I think it’s because we always seem to have some type of obligation, appointment or commitment. Perhaps, we just get anxious for new territory. Who knows but that’s the way it seems to work for us.
Our “last supper” was last night with Lee, Bri, Justin and Jordan at Izzy’s. It’s an all-you-can eat place that isn’t really great for folks on a diet because it’s easy to eat too much. We’ll certainly miss our family but we’ll be back! Even Terry agreed to get up at 6:00 AM this morning to bid farewell. Hard to believe … isn’t it? We'll see. It's not 6:00 yet so only time will tell. We want to get our hugs before they all take off to either school or work.
Yesterday we got out the eraser and started erasing some of that virtual chalk we use to write our travel plans with. I’m sure glad we are flexible because we certainly change our minds a lot. And, that’s just what we did. Our original thought was that we’d pull out of Washington, stop by Camping World south of Portland for an oil change plus a few other little tweaks and then head south for San Jose, CA. Actually, neither of us were too excited about that. Perhaps, it was because we had already spent quite a bit of time in that area. Our planning had to include being close to an airport for Terry’s upcoming flight.
Since we weren’t too excited about our previous plans we decided to change them. Now we’re on our way to San Diego. Sure, we’ve been there but not for quite some time and we feel we have something to look forward to. No real detours or long stops are planned along the route just a casino here and an Elks lodge there. We’re just hoping for beautiful weather and easy sailing. We have tentative spots for overnights but everything is subject to change, of course. Half the fun is in the planning anyway.
This is where we’re heading – San Diego Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Okay … so what if it’s boondocking? It’s still right on the beach of San Diego Bay with the Pacific Ocean across the street. You can rent a boat from the marina and even fish from the beach. Hotel del Coronado is right down the road for a fantastic (and expensive) meal. I would say that’s a hard boondocking spot to beat … just an opinion. And, everything we need is on site … fresh water and a dump. Matter of fact, the host will even lend you their blueboy so you don’t have to move the RV to dump.
Then a couple weeks later it’s going to be off to Palm Springs for a few more weeks. This trip is looking up after all!
OH MY! We are going to have to find out all about it. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteYes I would like to know where that boondocking spot is. Is it Silver Strand??
ReplyDeleteYou guys are never going to learn to slow down are you? But drive safe and you have a fabulous place to boondock when you get there.
ReplyDeleteSo you'll put details of that spot on the SKP Class of '08 map, right?
