Festivals, Street Fairs and Swap Meets

Tuesday rolled around and it was moving day for us. Why is it we always plan on getting a late and leisurely start but always end up doing just the opposite. Even Terry rolled out of bed earlier than usual and we were on the road to our next destination ….. 7 miles down the road. Finding a site was a little tricky. This park stays pretty full and the only sites that were empty were those where the former occupants had just left. We were lucky. We found a great spot. It’s very spacious with lots of palm trees, real live grass and even a concrete patio. To top that off we’re not far from the swimming pool and hot tub. That’s where I went Tuesday evening. One chore I certainly enjoy doing is checking out the pool area and wiggling my toes in the water. It’s amazing how much more you enjoy the refreshing pools once you’ve spent any length of time in the BLM without it. This may not be the hot mineral water we experienced at one BLM but it certainly is nice.

We love to sit outside when the weather is nice and it has been so gorgeous in this area. However, we’ve not really be able to sit out until now. Either the weather has been cool or windy or our site hasn’t been inviting enough to want to set up our patio. Tuesday we got a chance to bask in the sun and spent most of the afternoon outside doing one thing or another. My bike came down and I took it for several spins through the park. Even Duchess got to enjoy most of the day outside either snuggling on the grass or going for walks.roadrunner

After setting up, Terry spent most of the time talking to our new Canadian neighbors and getting a lesson from RV Flush, a vendor in the park.

We even had a couple visitors. Several Roadrunners live in the park. You can often see them on picnic tables or running down the roadways. A couple Roadrunners stopped by to welcome us to their home.

In addition to all the activities going on at the park, at check-in we were also given a handout of activities in the Palm Springs area. We had heard there were some pretty big open air markets and festivals in the Palm Springs area and had looked for some the other day. It was nice to know when to go and where they were. A couple years ago we visited the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival with our friends, Lee and Mary Jane. It was a lot of fun and now we find that our timing was right for this year as the festival will be in full swing in just a few days. We’re anxious to go back. It’s a jericharacterpretty big event around here.

Date Festival 2009

Downtown Palm Springs on Thursday night is the VillageFest. It’s another fun event as the streets are shut down and the vendors set up in the middle of it. Wednesday morning you can attend the Certified Farmers Market in Palm Desert. Then, on Saturday and Sunday there is the Canyon Plaza South Outdoor Market in Cathedral City. If that’s not enough the College of the Desert Street Fair is hopping every Saturday and Sunday from early morning to 2:00 P.M. With the Hyders again following us into this park soon, I’m sure we’re going to be pretty busy people for the next couple of weeks or so while we check out all the fairs, swap meets and festivals at least once and maybe even a couple times.

Last year Cowboy Jack visited the Thousand Trails park. He’s quite an entertainer and he’s on the schedule to return this weekend. Since we enjoyed him last year, I guess we’ll get to see him again. Or, maybe I should say, that I'll get to see him again. Terry's off to New Jersey on Friday.
