It is hot here. I mean it is really, really HOT!! Who in the world would expect it to be 100 degrees the 1st of April? We certainly didn't but that’s what it has been and we don’t like it one little itty bit! The air conditioning is running constantly during the day. At least the temperature in the evening does cool down into the mid-60’s which certainly helps sleeping. In the evenings and mornings our windows are wide open to let the cool air in before the air turns hot again. The problem with that is our neighbors leave their windows and doors open too. They have a dog that barks constantly … constantly. Even Duchess gets annoyed. Now if our Jeep would hurry up and get fixed, we could be on our way north where it is much cooler!
One of my embroidery projects
When we’re stuck inside we’re in charge of our own entertainment. We do that well. Terry is either watching TV, playing WOW or reading his books. I’ve worked on a few projects and actually enjoyed doing it on days we’re stuck inside. At least I enjoy it for a while.
First of all, I thought I wanted to make a quilt. Actually, I didn’t. I just wanted to know if I could. I bought tons of packets of material with that in mind but that was so ordinary and when it’s hot, who wants a quilt? This is as far as I’ve gotten. I need to come up with something else to do with the squares now. On these I transferred photos of our grandkids to material and on a couple did some embroidery beneath. However, then, it was back to what should I do next? Once I figured that out it was time to move on to something else. This leads to a lot of undone projects but I’m sure there are many more hot days ahead.
I also spent hours working on genealogy. It’s amazing how much information is now available via the Internet than what it was 30 years ago when I first started this project. Then, most of the information gained was by actually visiting libraries, court houses and cemeteries. I spent plenty of time doi
ng that. Genealogy is like solving a mystery and very intriguing to me. I’m always looking for those colorful ancestors that all of us certainly have.
Of course, it’s been hot way more than we wanted so other projects were tried and partially conquered. Machine embroidery is a new one to me too. This has been a trial and error hobby with a lot more error than I really wanted.
I’ve even had to throw a few shirts away in the process. Why is it that all the practice pieces turned out okay and when I figure I’m ready to work on the real thing that I run into problems? However, I've gotten really good at putting Williams on lots of practice things.
Hopefully the Jeep will get out of the shop this next week. At least that’s what we’re hoping. We’re certainly ready to get on the road again.
Wow! That machine embroidery is beautiful! Maybe you need to make a patchwork shirt from the pieces that worked?
ReplyDeleteIn this heat I sure don't have the ambition you do. I just want to sit still, read and try not to sweat.
ReplyDeleteThree years ago quite by accident, I found a brother I didn't know I had on ancestor.com . Surprise, surprise! He flew here to meet me and I visited him in San Francisco. I actually found him a week after the brother I grew up with passed away, and on my Mom's birthday. Life never ceases to amaze!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, I want you to embroider me a t-shirt. I want it to say "Canada: America's Hat.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you are industious! When we hit the road I had such great plans for all I was going to accomplish..get in shape, blog every day, scan photos to make photo books for the kids. Sounds great - huh? And thats as far as I got..sounding good.
ReplyDeleteDrive safe when you head north and let us know if you get any where near us. Would love to see you again!
