It’s not that some people have willpower and some don’t. It’s that some people are ready to change and others are not.
Wednesdayy morning we received the call that fellow SKPs from our own little group were making camp about 35 miles away at the Black Rock Campground in Joshua Tree National Park. We were off to visit with them.
Windmills cover the San Bernardino Mountains alongside Highway 62 from I-10. It’s such a change from the valley floor with an elevation of 274 feet to the high desert at 3,800 feet . You leave the traffic and definitely the heat as you make the climb to Yucca Valley. Instead of so many palm trees along the sides you start seeing all the Joshua Trees. We visited this area a couple of years ago and really thought it was beautiful.
Readytoride (Mike and Julie) and Shadowtracks (Dave and Nancy) were set up in the park with very few neighbors. Evidently the park fills up on the weekends but it was certainly empty when we were there. There are no hookups but cell phone was working. Mike was busy trying to fix his awning as some of the sites were pretty close to the sharp yucca tips and they made their mark on his rig.
The six of us belong to the same group in the same club. We were part of the same forum and had communicated for quite some time and finally met almost two years ago. We had “camped” together for about two weeks at that time. Since them we’ve continued to communicate and kept in touch with each other. The only newcomer to the group was Nancy. Dave and Nancy were recently married and she’s a great addition to our RVing family.
When we get together there are always things to catch up on. We did a lot of catching up. This time I took a couple pictures but missed the best one of all. Nancy took Duchess for a walk. The walk went well except on the way back. It was like turning a horse to the barn. Duchess ran full speed back to where we are seated with Nancy in tow. It was so funny catching the expression on both of their faces.
That evening we returned to the casino to try our luck again. We didn’t do so well which is probably good. When you leave with extra coins in your pocket, you want to return soon. When you leave with less coins, you’re not so anxious to go back. We probably won’t go back to a casino for a while.
Speaking of change, we’re ready to change. The hitch itch has set in and we’re moving down the road in a day or two. We’re going to be working our way up to Lake Havasu. Sure, we’ve been there but really just passing through. We’re not sure how long we’ll stay but we have a few things we haven’t spent time doing. One of those things is visiting the old mining town of Oatman. As of today, that’s our plans and we’re sticking to them. You know how well we stick to our plans. However, our hitch is itching so we’ll be moving down the road a bit.
My casino visit today was short and not too sweet. So I'm not in any hurry to go back. Have fun in Oatman. We haven't been there yet either.
ReplyDeleteYou can't be in a hurry when you get to Oatman. The burros have the right of way and they definitely are not in any hurry. Everyone ought to go at least once but DO NOT take your RV. We went in our View and were able to drive through but not park.
