We Shed A Few Tears Yesterday

"The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's." Mark Twain

titan1It wasn’t that we pulled out of Lake Havasu a little later than we figured we would. It wasn’t that we arrived at the Blue Beacon for the Motorhome wash job and had to wait in line or that they didn't like me taking pictures. It wasn’t anything RV related. This was much more important than that.

And, I swore I wouldn’t blog this but I am and that's because we all shed a few tears.

We’re saying goodbye to Titan today. If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that Titan has been Duchess’ friend and my kid’s companion for quite a few years. We actually felt when we left Washington last month that we probably would not see him again. Great Danes don’t live long lives and he had been having issues. Many times it’s more humane to say “goodbye” while there is a little quality left in life before there is none. We knew he was going downhill and he did. We said our goodbyes then but didn't share our thoughts with the kids.

We said goodbye to Duchess’ other companion, Bishop, just days into our RV adventure. We shed many tears then too. It was very hard to make the decision to let him go and we know we should have done it sooner. With cancer people can tell you how they feel and where they hurt. Dogs can't do that. People say it’s just a dog. It’s not just a dog. As Sabrina said, it’s a friend who asks nothing in return and loves you unconditionally.

Titan, you will always be in our heart.
