Friday night was another cold one in Quartzsite. The good part was that we knew warmer weather was just around the corner. There was a little ice on the car but not as much as the morning before.
Terry and Dave talking generator and solar stuff.
We met Dave and Lee again for another meal before we got on the road. This time we met at Janet’s Kitchen. Breakfast was good but the company was even better. We were all going our separate ways so this was the farewell meal. Well, it really wasn’t farewell since we knew we’d be seeing each other again in a couple of weeks.
The day may have been cool but it was a great day for driving. The sun was out and very little traffic was on the road. Since it was New Year’s Day, we assumed everyone was sleeping in.
First, the center of the world
We had no clue where we were heading in Yuma but that worked out okay since we still had our orange LTVA sticker which was good for a few more days. We made a couple calls to RV parks, couldn’t get a hold of anyone so ended up in the BLM. There are a lot of areas around Yuma that one can park without pulling into an RV park. We now have another large front yard, gorgeous sunsets out the door and a place for Duchess to run. We’ll be here for a couple more days.
Then, the End of the World
Sunday we stopped by the Swapmeet but didn’t stay long. Instead we took a drive north up Sidewinder Road. Whoa there! The pavement only lasts for about a mile. That wasn’t the biggest problem though. Very deep and brand new gravel had recently been dumped on the road. All I can say is thank goodness we have a 4 wheel drive or we may still be sitting there. With a little sliding around we finally made it back to the hard packed ground.
We decided to take another route to the American Girl Mine. Guess who we passed heading into that area just as we were leaving?? Jerry and Janice were searching for a little solitude and a place to park their rig for a few days. We found them though but left them in peace!
On the way to the mine
We also made a stop to visit brother and another cousin before heading back to the Quechan Casino. We had stopped Saturday night at the casino but that time it was for the seafood buffet. This time it wasn’t for the food. It was to play the slots. Since we hadn’t been there in a year, they loaded $10 back on our player’s card. We actually played for several hours on their dollar and walked out with an extra $20 in our pocket. It was a great day. We can hardly wait to do it again. On Wednesday they put $10 on your card if you’re over 50. Guess where we’re going then?
Monday? Well, we still need to get to Best Buy for those battery chargers, buy new hoses, help cousin with computer issue, inquire about another coach upgrade and just piddle the day away.
Update: Southwest still hasn’t found my baggage. Do I really think they will? No.
