Stuck in the Sand

1coco

We have had a very busy week. Terry and Jerry attended the Gathering of the Gunfighters in Yuma last weekend. Since then, we’ve been busy trying to get inverters fixed, visiting, eating and just doing a lot of talking.

We had more RV’s pull into our group on Friday. We also had a couple that weren’t part of our group sneak into a spot we hoped to reserve for others. However, we couldn’t very well kick them out and especially since it’s really public land. Oh well, we’ll get over it. There is plenty of space out here since we have no fences or markings on size of spaces.

As of Friday evening we had 14 RVs kind of in a circle. Saturday morning we had one pull out. As of Monday we’ll have two more pull out but we also have three more arriving. It’s too bad everyone couldn’t be here at the same time but it just didn’t work out that way.

The Quechan Casino isn’t far down the road and in the past we’ve had the best seafood buffet ever. That was our plan on Friday. It wasn’t intended to be a group outing but others wanted to give it a try too. However, the seafood buffet just didn’t seem to be as good as it had in the past. Last year the seafood wrapped around the serving line. This year it seemed1crab like half the seafood was missing and other food was substituted in its place.

Terry stood in line while I donated at the slot machines. Then Ed and Linda crowded into line with Terry so we shared a table with them. What else could we do? We were almost finished by the time Sandie and Jim arrived with five more hungry RV’ers.

The biggest excitement of the evening started when Julie walked up to our table and told us that one of our group got stuck in the sand in their motorhome!! It seems they had turned down the wrong road … a really bad road. Oh oh! Several folks had already gone to try to get them out and thank goodness they were successful. Here’s the unique part --- Sands is the last name, the motorhome is called the Sandcastle and they got stuck in the sand. Go figure!

It was very late and nearly dark when the task was completed. The dirt road appeared to have a good load of new sand dumped on it. Either way it was not passible in a two-wheel drive, let alone a motorhome. Not only the motorhome got stuck but also one of the other pickups had to pulled out. Here they are after finally being freed from all that sand. It was a another gorgeous sunset and they were finally thrilled to be moving again.

  1. You are right about us being glad to be free again. What a great bunch of people who willingly came to our rescue! By the way, although there are two of us our name is singular. The S only goes on the front end of that type of Sand. :)
