On the Road Again

Nothing fixes a thing so intensely in the memory as the wish to forget it.

We took off from Kalama, Washington after we figured kids would already be in school and most people who were going to work would already be there. Even though we knew the route through Vancouver and Portland, we didn’t want any heavy traffic. It was a little after 8:30.

We were out of our minds for leaving so early. Our appointment with Camping World wasn’t until 2:00. We foolishly thought they would get us in early. Surely they would. They didn’t. We were about a half an hour late pulling into the stall for the work to begin and we didn’t pull out of there until just before 6:00. It was a little late to be heading to the SKP park in Sutherlin.

The Monaco factory was 86 miles down the road in Coburg. We figured that was probably far enough for that evening. In addition we knew there were several places that would be possible to use for an overnight stay there. We weren’t the only ones who felt that way. Several folks in RVs were boondocking across the road from Monaco at the Cummins plant. The Monaco lot was also pretty full with other folks spending the night. Some were boondocking and some weren’t. There were about 25 sites at the Service Center with water and electric. Some of those sites were empty. and only about 20 RVs were hooked up. That left one for us and that’s where we spent the night. It was only a 150 mile day but we felt like it had been many more. It had been a long day even though most of it was spent sitting around and waiting.

Wednesday morning we were out of Coburg, Oregon by 7:30 AM and headed towards the California border.

Tip: The factory is at exit 199 off of I-5. At the exit there is also a Truck and Travel where many, many truckers were parked. It was packed and only one RV. Everyone else was parked close to the Cummins and Monaco centers. There’s lots of room if you ever need it.
