When you stumble, make it part of the dance.
A great way to get a satellite view of your next stop or RV park is to check out Google Maps. Some places to stop along the way are just better than other places but many times you really don't have a clue unless you've been there before. Google Maps is better than just a map because it gives you an opportunity to see what's there before you arrive.
Here are a few examples of places I checked out for our upcoming trip south.
One of our options for an overnight stay is the Petro Station in Phoenix, OR. This location is just before you leave the state of Oregon and cross over the Siskiyou Mountains into California. We don't really want to stay at an RV park as we only need just a place to park and sleep. The map shows exactly where the trucks park and where the RVs park. We can figure out where to go and how to get there even before we arrive.
The following map is of the Heritage RV Park right off of the I-5 in Corning, CA. Another good thing with Google Maps is that you can figure out see how easy or difficult the access is. In addition, many businesses and eateries around the area are shown on the map.
And, here is the Santa Cruz Elks. The map shows that the parking lot at the Elks is huge so even though the full hookup sites might be occupied, there would be plenty of room for many more RVs. By looking at the Elks lodges around the San Jose area, we discovered that the Elks lodge in Santa Clara was much closer to the airport than the one in San Jose. We will need to be close to the airport for an upcoming flight for Terry.
If you find an RV park you are interested in, the satellite view can not only check out location but also the layout of the park including overhead trees or size of spaces. Many eateries are even listed on the map so you can plan your meal by checking proximity to your overnight stay.
And, the last satellite view I’m going to show is that of a SKP park. This particular one is located in Pahrump, NV. We stayed here last year.
Anyway, it’s just another great tool to help with the route and also to see what’s really on the way or there before you arrive. I love using it.
We use Google Maps also. But, we've still been caught by curb placements which didn't show up on the map that turned a drive-thru place into a how-on-earth-are-we-going-to-get-out-of-here place. Once the experience is over it becomes just another story to tell around the campfire. :)
ReplyDeleteI should have used this four nights ago. We were buried under oak trees - not a good thing to be under in a downpour. Acorns don't hang tight and neither do tree branches.
ReplyDeleteJust Google maps? I use them all the time for directions but didn't know you could do this. Wow, what a great idea, idea-lady!
