Awesome Christmas Lights and SKP Gathering

Saturday night the SKP Chapter of Apache Junction had their annual Christmas function. We had never been to any of the SKP chapter dinners or meetings in the past. At first we weren't quite so sure about going since we had quite a drive into town and also had to worry about the amount of time we were leaving Duchess in the motorhome. However, it's easier in the evening than it is during the day. We were gone about five hours and it worked out just fine.

Even though we belong to SKP and have been to their parks and get togethers, we do not belong to a chapter. However, we do belong to a couple of the BOF (Birds of a Feather) groups. I know some do a lot of RV outings and after this, we may just consider joining one. The problem is we are never in one place long enough to really belong to a chapter. After about two weeks in almost any place, we’re ready to pull up those jacks and hit the road. eric

The evening started at Pier de Orleans in Mesa and ended at the Mormon Temple for their Christmas program. The whole event was quite awesome from connecting with “old” friends and the fabulous meal to the wonderful lights and music later in the evening. We even met folks we weren’t supposed to meet up with for another few days. Other familiar faces were scattered around the room but most of them were seated at Sandie and Jim’s table including Paul who we had recently seen in Tucson. We also finally got to put a few names with faces. Eric and Karla introduced us to their friends, Sherry and Sharon. We hadn’t seen Eric and Karla since last January so it was fantastic to see them again. Okay, so I tried to get a picture of the people at Sandie’s table but she moved her head about the time I took the picture. If I posted it, she would shoot me.

The lights at the Mormon Temple in Mesa were phenomenal. We had never seen any place more decorated than this. I had read about the light display last year but we didn’t actually see it for ourselves. It is a spectacular exhibit of hundreds of thousands of lights. I’m certainly glad we were able to attend the function.

It’s Sunday and we actually have no plans on what we’re going to do. I’m certain something will come up. We may even head into Apache Junction …. again. Or, we may not. The swap meet there is probably still in full swing with Christmas just around the corner.
