After a few days of cool weather, the warm temperatures finally returned and we were ready to do something. It’s amazing how that old attitude sinks when you’re stuck inside for a while. When the sun comes out everything seems much more pleasant … including us. Wednesday was a beautiful day and we wanted to take advantage of it. We drove to Tombstone and Bisbee which was a total day trip of just under 200 miles.
Tombstone is such a unique town. There are many western towns but this one was actually a real town with its own colorful history. Most of you know the history of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. Heck, it’s been in the movies and on TV so I’m assuming we all watched it at one time or other. To repeat the history here would be boring so I’m not going to do that. The streets of Old Tombstone are not open to cars. That certainly is a perk because it’s easier to take pictures and actually walk down the streets of town without fighting traffic.
We were there early so very few people were roaming the streets. Even some of the stores hadn’t unlocked their doors yet. We enjoyed browsing through the unique shops and they’re even dog friendly! We saw lots of dogs invited into the stores. Well, you can’t take them into the restaurants but just about every place else.
After a stop at boot hill, we headed about 25 miles south to the town of Bisbee. Several folks had said it was a great little town. We were so close that we thought this was the time to do it. Old Bisbee is loaded with antique shops. Many of the old buildings still stand and are in use. We’re glad we went but we much preferred the little town of Tombstone.
Instead of heading back to Tucson the same route, we returned via Sierra Vista. Were we ever surprised by the size of the town. That little place was certainly hopping. We passed a Wal-Mart, a Target and even a Lowe’s. And, to think that we thought it was just a wide spot in the road.
It was a nice day but by the time we got back we were both ready for a nap. That was our day!
A couple pictures above show one of the photos used to create the HDR photo and the result after high dynamic range processing. It's so much fun playing with them and seeing the difference. Alas, what else can I do with the photos? I certainly don't have enough walls to put them all on.
We liked Tombstone better also. Bisbee was okay to visit for a quick lunch. But it may have also been that I was totally burned out on sight seeing. Still am to be honest with you.
