A Few RV Parks in Vegas

I never intended to blog every day. That was never an intent. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. Right now we’ve got so much going on and we’re doing so much that if I don’t, I’ll get so far desert3behind I’ll never catch up and these little blogs are my diaries. I might need it down the road to see what we did and when we did it. With a blog you don’t have to worry about a senior moment. It’s all written down for you.

Our reservations at the Thousand Trails park were originally made for two weeks. Tuesday we extended that for one additional week. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to extend but we were lucky. March is a pretty busy month in the Vegas area. Actually, I think every month is a busy month here.

Tuesday we spent a little time checking out other RV parks in case we had to move. Most of them around the Las Vegas area have pretty small sites and the parks are usually full. If they squeeze the RVs together, they can get more units in and most do just that. We haven’t found a lot of activities going on at the parks like in other areas. After all, they probably think most of the folks are busy on The Strip and not hanging out at their RV. I guess they deserteagle1figure Las Vegas itself will provide most of the activities for visitors. It does too.

There are several RV parks on Boulder Highway. It’s away from a lot of the city congestion but close enough to enjoy everything about Las Vegas. Sam’s Town RV park is about two miles south of us and the Roadrunner RV park about a mile. Both have been running pretty full. Our neighbor just moved down to Covered Wagon RV Park which is just a little farther south but still on Boulder Highway. Our problem is that we can’t get into most of those parks with their 20 pound pet restriction rule. Duchess, obviously, weighs just a tad more than that. We’ve also discovered that some of the hotel rooms advertise cheaper rates than the RV parks. Maybe the best thing to do is park your RV and take a room.

We also took a drive 9 miles north to check out the location of the recent NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Workers were busy cleaning up and bags of garbage lined the concrete. Just a couple days before this place was hopping with cars, RVs and people. Now it’s a mighty empty place.

Once we got back from our little adventure checking out the RV parks and the Speedway, we sat outside and soaked up the warm sunshine. Out came the map for Utah and the Mountain West book. Where are we heading next? We could tour Utah now or we could do it in September when we leave Washington for Illinois …. hmmm. Right now the weather isn’t warm enough to head too far north. We need it to warm up a bit. The most difficultspped3 part we face in our day to day life is figuring out what we want to see and where to head next! This is just Life on the Road.

There are other places to see around here other than the casinos. Wednesday we’ll visit the Valley of Fire. Then, on Thursday we’ll check out another huge hotel or two and the casinos on The Strip. The nightlife doesn’t stop in Vegas but we have found we much prefer to do our touring of the hotels in the morning. However, most of the action and shows are at night. So, a little bit of both works I guess.

Tuesday ended with steaks on the grill Instead of another buffet. Then, we took the short walk to the hot tub. It was a really good day.

As much as we hate to be, we’re in the market for a new GPS. Ours currently works but screeches at us. It’s time to replace it. The hard part is finding the right one that fits our needs. Any ideas?

  1. Glad you were able to extend for another week. Definitely a city with lots to do. Hopefully I'll feel up to doing some of those things shortly.

  2. You could rent a room in a hotel then sleep in the parking lot in your RV? We met a fellow doing that once--sort of. His wife was in the hotel room but he was too busy drinking in his RV to go into the hotel.

  3. We need a new GPS also. We talked with a lot of people in Mission and everyone seems to have a different opinion. I guess this is one of those personal things that depends on what you think is most important to your travel. One thing we know we want to look for is a GPS that tells us ahead of time what lane we should be in.
