VALLEY OF FIRE

We had been anxious to take the little jaunt up I-15 from Vegas to check out the Valley of Fire. Wednesday was the day for the trip and we were ready to go. Duchess was even excited that she was invited to go on this trip. We expected it to be a very nice day and it was. The weather was perfect and we were heading away from the crowds.

The Valley of Fire State Park was Nevada’s first state park. Since it’s a state park there is no discount for folks entering unless they are Nevada residents or have a disabled plate. Admission per car is $10 and it is well worth it. From the time we entered the park, we were in total awe of the beauty. We didn’t want to miss a thing. The rock formations and petroglyphs are phenomenal. The colors range from white to pink to red and even to purple.

Visitor’s Center – Displays on history of park but little to take with you. No water, snacks or t-shirts or anyone to answer questions. The Visitor’s Center is about halfway through the park.

We had entered the park at the west entrance. We left at the east entrance. Now we could have turned around and gone back to Vegas the same way we came. We didn’t. Actually, it was farther to head back that way since we would have had to drive all the way back through the park. We probably saved about 20 miles by going through Lake Mead Recreational Area. I doubt that it was faster but it sure was gorgeous.
