Hoover Dam

We visited Hoover Dam when the new bridge was under construction but hadn’t been back since it had been completed. However, Monday was the day we were finally going to be able to check out the new bridge. The Lavins and Dwyers were going with us or rather, we were going with them. We had some fantastic views of Lake Mead on our way to take the tour. Steve was driving and it was obvious he had been trained to stop at places that offered great views of an area. He knew just where to go and when to stop. With cameras in hand we were all busy taking photos.

All six of us had planned on taking the tour of the dam. We didn’t know you had to go through a security check. Terry and Ed both were carrying little pocket knives. These knives weren’t allowed. They had a choice to either take them back to the car or not go on the tour. They decided to just enjoy the view and the gorgeous weather by sitting outside at the little café. The four of us went on the power plant tour by ourselves.

The Hoover Dam was a phenomenal undertaking. It is considered one of the 7 wonders of the “modern” world. If you haven’t taken the time to visit the Hoover Dam, add it to your bucket list. It’s worth the trip.

After the tour the six of us met at Mel’s Diner in Boulder City. Remember the TV show Alice who worked at Mel’s Diner? The star of that show was an actress by the name of Linda Lavin. Since we were with Linda Lavin, that’s where we stopped for dinner. Food was great and company was even better.hoover2

Tomorrow we move again but this time our destination is only 20 miles away in Las Vegas. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll learn what casinos give great freebies when you sign up for their player’s cards when we visit The Strip. We also have other places to visit including Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, Howard Hughes’ home and whatever else we may discover that is close. As usual, there are a lot of things on our plate over the next few weeks.
