Severe Thunderstorms and Delayed Flights

IMG_2616
Well, the plan was to be off to the airport again on Wednesday to pick up Terry.  I want to emphasize the words  WAS and AGAIN.  I guess it really should be something we’re used to but things change over time.  It also used to be that even our grandkids thought  “Papa” lived at the airport.  After all, if we wanted to see him, we’d just go to the airport to get him.  That’s where they thought he lived. That was back in the days when he worked and usually traveled much of the week.  On Monday he’d fly out and usually return sometime close to the end of the week.  However, those days are mostly behind us and the idea now is not to always have to go to the airport.  After all, isn’t that what our RV is about?  I must admit though it’s a little difficult to drive to Phoenix for just an overnight stay in an RV.  Who in their right mind would want to be in Phoenix anyway during the month of May living in an RV??  You’d need two or three more air conditioners just to cool it down.

This time there were severe thunderstorms in Dallas andPortland since Terry’s flight was to go through Dallas, it didn’t happen as we had planned.  Flights in Phoenix were canceled and so were flights in Dallas.  The good part about that was others didn’t show up at the airport in Phoenix for their flights making an empty seat available on a much delayed flight.  Wednesday night he joined many others sleeping inside security at the Dallas airport.

Actually we have both spent many nights sleeping overnight at airports.  It’s obviously not our choice and not fun.  However, if you’re stuck overnight in an airport, it’s always nice to be at one where you can stay behind security.  Not all of them allow that so it has to be a major one with flights that arrive and depart all night long.  I’d certainly rather be stuck sleeping at an airport than sleeping at a train station though …. been there, done that and hope to never do that one again!

He’ll be glad to get this behind him and once again be behind the wheel where he is in control of his own takeoff and landings in the RV!!

I’m still working with my brother and his housing issues.  Today I’m off to check out assisted living homes in the area.  This is one thing I know little about but am sure will become very familiar with.  Once this is settled we’ll be back to moving down the road in our RV.

  1. Sure hope Terry gets back quickly. And for Pete's sake - get him a dentist up there somewhere. Sleeping in an airport definitely beats the sleeping in the train station, but it's not much fun and not very restful.

  2. It's good to have all you Blogger people back. It felt much like checking flight schedules to see how long the delay would be. :)
