Portland’s Saturday Market and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

No one is perfect.  That's why pencils have erasers.

The nice days just keep coming.  After all the rotten weather around everywhere this spring, we can all certainly use some nice weather.  The thing is if the weather is nice you need to be outside and take advantage of it.  We did.  We made a trip to the Saturday Market in the Old Towne district of Portland.

This is a huge, huge market.  In addition to all the food vendors, street singers, craft sales, this is the time of Rose Festival festivities.  Thus, the carnival was there.  It was packed.  We walked through the area but the only money we spent was on parking.

We could have eaten lunch at the Saturday Market.  Every type of food was available but we didn’t.  Instead, we wanted to visit one of the restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

After we purchased our GPS, I downloaded a bunch of POIs of places we might want to visit in the future.  Then, I loaded them on our new GPS.  One of the “extras” added included restaurants on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  Thus, we had several choices in the Portland area and our GPS would take us there.

Where did we go?  We went to Otto’s Sausage Kitchen.  The place was packed!  Cars were parked on both sides of the street and people were lined up inside at the sandwich bar and outside at the barbecue.  We had great pork sausage and loved the experience.

There are several other places just like this in the Portland area.  We plan on checking them out over the next couple of months.  It’s so much fun to try new places and that’s just what we’re going to do.

  1. I need to go to that website and see if there are any places listed for Houston. Can't image there aren't. Never thought about it. I am sure Livingston doesn't have ANY.

  2. Billings is supposed to have their strawberry festival this Saturday but all we have is rain and more rain and more rain predicted. So I'm not sure if we'll go or not. The sausage sandwich really sounds good.
